MUSIC WORKSHOP SERIES

Welcome!

The MOTOWN ALUMNI ASSOCIATION is pleased to introduce a series of entertainment workshops focused on a variety of aspects of the performing arts. Our participants will include aspiring & established solo artists, group performers, promoters, digital media professionals, managers, and other roles in the dynamic fields of the performing arts.


Net proceeds from this series of workshops will benefit the CHANCE FOR LIFE ORGANIZATION, a Michigan-based conflict management non-profit 501(c)3 organization, that focuses on prison transformative programs, various services outside of the incarceration process for returning citizens and their families, and other program based services assisting the needs of the community.


To begin your experience in the entertainment adventure you must click the blue button next to each individual session to register and pre-pay. The dates, time, and price are explained below. Note, this is a 10- week workshop series, and you can register for any or all of the workshops (but must register for each one individually).


Each session is tailored to address varying levels of expertise and experience. Each participant MUST use the name on the credit card used to register when signing in to the workshop Zoom Room to verify registration. Sign-in instructions with password will be sent to the email address used during credit card submission. Children under 17 must have permission from their parent or guardian to participate.


Please note that your audio will be muted by the host as you are added to the Zoom conference meeting– and will be unmuted individually for the question & answer portion of the session.

~ Each workshop session will hold a maximum of 100 individual registrants.

~ Scheduled guest celebrities, entertainers, musicians, technical professionals, managers, booking agents, songwriters, across generations, will be woven into the workshops by invitation, coordinated through MAA Workshop host, Billy Wilson.

By joining each MAA Music Workshop, participant consents to the Motown Alumni Association to record film, and audio for distribution, including all intellectual or performing rights which is completely applicable to this platform. Making these actions, and agreement to hold harmless the Motown Alumni Association, its affiliates, members, directors, agents, officers, contractors, volunteers, and employees against any and all legal claims arising out of, by reason of, or caused by the performance of these actions or other use or distribution of any recorded footage. All audio & filmed recordings are produced and owned by the Motown Alumni Association. And any productions or works must be licensed by said organization.

Session 1.) THE WIDE SPECTRUM OF THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY

1.)  Billy Wilson, President of The Motown Alumni Association will introduce the overall program and what value it can provide for participants across a wide spectrum of the entertainment industry – from those exploring opportunities, to those well-established seeking broader perspectives. The workshop includes the beginner level from basement to garage to center stage and ‘behind the scenes!’

SESSION 8.) WHAT IS A PRODUCER?

8.) A producer can be your greatest friend or worse enemy. Basically, a producer put the musicians, singers (background), audio engineer, and other components of the music or production together to come up with a final finished product. You normally pay them a onetime fee to do that job and you might give them a percentage of the product royalties (1 to 5%). But there can be more to the picture…

SESSION 10.) LEARN THE COLLEGE MARKET & COLLEGE RADIO, ARMED FORCES ENTERTAINMENT TOURS & THE IMPORTANCE OF RECORD SHOWS

10.) Colleges can be a very profitable and fan-base building market. All forms of entertainment are welcome. The Armed Forces Entertainment Tours are a great way to start seeing the world (and the government pays for it!) Record shows can be a great tool to sell your products, allow fans to see you personally, and expand your visibility.

Stages Of Progression: There are multiple stages of the entertainment industry to consider and or advance to. Each stage have its own issues and problems. The syllabus addresses each of these stages.
Here is the path to follow as an entertainer, starting from the basement to major professional status:

Stage 1. - Basement Band
Stage 2. - Garage Band
Stage 3. - Bar Band/Festival
Stage 4. - Bar & Festival with a recording out
Stage 5. - Bar & Festival with a booking agent.
Stage 6. - Semi-professional as a warm-up for major acts (locally)
Stage 7. - Professional warm-up act for major acts (nationally)
Stage 8. - Professional Signed recording contract
